Department of Journalism and Communication
Department of Journalism and Communication of Zhejiang University is one of the earliest departments dedicated to communication education and research in Zhejiang Province. Currently, it is staffed with a faculty of 18, including 5 full professors, 12 associate professors and 1 lecturer. The scientific research efforts are conducted under two research institutes: News Media and Social Development and Communication Studies.
Department of International Cultures
Founded in 1999, the Department of International Cultures currently offers the Bachelor’s Degree of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. There are 8 professors, 4 associate professors and 3 lecturers, each pursuing different research directions, and playing a major role in Institute of International Culture and Social Thoughts and Institute of Aesthetic and Critical Theory. They are also actively engaged in the teaching, research and discipline construction of 3 doctoral programs (Aesthetics, Literature and Modern Chinese Literature) and 4 master programs (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Aesthetics, Literature and Modern Chinese Literature).
Department of Film, Television Arts and New Media
Founded in 2007, the Film, Television Arts and New Media Department offers a bachelor’s degree course of Radio and Television based on the Radio and Television Journalism specialty set up in Journalism and Communication College of Hangzhou University in 1994. In 2007, the Department added research direction of Broadcast and Television Directing, and has accumulated rich experience in audio and visual communication education and research. There are 3 professors, 6 associate professors and 4 lecturers.
Department of Strategic Communication
Founded in late 2015, the Department of Strategic Communication has constructed teaching and research platform by basing based on the strength of first-level discipline of Journalism and Communication, centering on the 25-year-old specialty of Advertising, enlisting relevant resources in specialty of Public Relations and introducing discipline framework of strategic communication from overseas. Currently, it has successfully built a three-tier discipline echelon of Bachelor, Master and Doctor programs.
The Department is staffed with 1 professor, 3 associate professors and 2 lecturers. Furthermore, it is also supported by a teaching team (industrial tutors) composed of industrial elites and government officials. Mainly outside-school seniors executives in strategic communication, advertising, public relations, media and government, they provide practical guidance and insights to students.
